Salatul Isha’a comes in once the twilight disappears

As it is found in the wording of the hadeeth of Abu burdah al aslami & Abu musa al ash’ari رضي الله عنهما

فأقام العشاء حين غاب الشفق

the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to establish Isha’a when the twilight disappeared reported in Muslim.

Ibn Qudaamah mentioned that “there is no difference of opinion regarding Isha’a being when the twilight disappears”

I say (shaykh Zaayid) likewise more than one scholar has compiled consensus from amongst the people of knowledge.

What is the twilight?

The 1st stance:

The twilight (shufuq) is the redness (afterglow), this is the stance of the majority of the scholars from them Umar Bin al-khataab, Ali bin abi Taalib, Ibn Amr, Ibn Abaas, Abu Hurayrah, Ubaadah Bin Saamit, shadaad Bin Aws may Allah be pleased with them all

The proof for this statement is what An-Nawaawi mentioned from a collective of the people of linguistics who said that “the twilight is redness.”

And some ahadeeth have been reported of which An-Nawaawi said concerning “our companions (from amongst the shafee’yah) have used as proof for the twilight to mean redness; ahaadeeth, Qiyaas (Applied Analogy) & there has not been anything clear & authentic reported in any of it.

The 2nd stance that the twilight (shufuq) is the white (afterglow). This is the stance of Anas, Muadh bin Jabal, Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنهم and also Umar bin Abdilazeez, Al-Awzaa’ee, Abu Haneefah, Ibn Mundhir.

I say (Shaykh Zaayid) that which is correct is the 1st stance.

Shaykh Uthaymeen Raheemahumullah said concerning the statement ‘until the disappearance of the twilight’ – meaning the redness in the sky, when the redness disappears & not the disappearance of the whiteness, this is when the Time of Maghrib is up & the time of Isha’a enters in. And its estimation is approximately an hour (between them) & it varies & differs depending upon what season it is, sometimes it may be longer sometimes its shorter but that which is known clearly is by witnessing, so when you see that the redness in the sky has cleared up then this is a proof of maghrib having ended, and this time period fluctuates between an hour & 15 min to an hour & 33 min approximately.
